An invitation arrived home from school with Jacob last week. Mixed in with the schoolwork and empty lunch bag was an invitation to the school district art fair. The paper said that Jake had two projects in the art fair this year.
Wow! I have an artist?!?! (And I thought that the reams of copy paper he was using for random drawings and 3-D models was all for nothing–How silly of me)
I found it odd that Jake wasn’t really excited about the Grand Opening of his art show. Okay, I know it’s only two pieces, but this should be a big deal when you are only seven, right?
Thursday evening rolled around and we headed off to the Blue Island Public Libraray–invitation in hand. We were promptly greeted by Ms. Jordan (the art teacher) and after Jacob remembered to introduce us, we were told to enjoy ourselved and take a look around. The art fair included work from students in the entire district between the ages of five and 12.
We set about exploring the walls and shelves of the rather chaotic library, feigning interest in some peices and finding others truly amazing, we finally stumbled upon a piece entitled Good Doggie by none other than our Jacob. A copy of this project came home and I was impressed with it then.

Here’s a picture of the Artist with his project. Well Done Jake!
We continued to explore in search of more art. (Specifically Jacob’s second project) and found this one titled “Hacienda”
What fantastic use of color. Detail. Here Jacob is showing me the way he combined Tempura paint and marker to achieve the desired effect.
Well done Jake! We are very proud.
The only question I have now:
What are we going to do with this one?

Oh my! You told me that Jake’s artwork was good, but I was not prepared for that! Those are fantastic! Get that kid an easel and a set of pastels.

Pastels? We don’t use pastels. Get him some manly colors for Pete’s sake. We need to find a way for him to create are with things like oil and transmission fluid and grease. Not pastels. Please!
